The Star Wars universe is a big, interesting place . . . if you’re a Jedi. What if you aren’t so lucky? I have good news! There are a great number of jobs you can hold if you don’t have the skills for a lightsaber, jobs that will still land you right in the center of the action:
As a Senator, you’ll be part of the Galactic Senate at Coruscant. It will be your job to represent your planet during votes, and act as the sectorial head of state. Corporations such as the Trade Federation also have their own representation. Toward the end of the Galactic republic, many senators became corrupt, though others continued to uphold democracy. Some famous senators include Padme Amidala, Palpatine, and Bail Organa.
Pilots are an essential part of the galaxy. Flying interstellar ships takes concentration and skill, and they are a hot commodity, as travel, shipping, and military forces all require a high number of pilots. Slower ships like freighters or cruise lines don’t need as much skill, but star fighters such as those used against the Death Star require quick reflexes and accuracy. You will be called a flyboy. Famously skilled pilots include Anakin and Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, and Nien Nunb.
With the rise of the Galactic Empire, smuggling became a necessity, as the Empire put strong restrictions on many materials. As a smuggler, you’ll be instrumental in keeping Imperial checkpoints from discovering your hidden goods. You’ll be able to utilize secret compartments in your ship, like Han Solo did in Episode IV. Han Solo is one of the most famous smugglers, but others include Chewbacca and Dash Rendar.
You’ll be renowned for your skills in fighting and tracking anybody with a price on their head, though you may have to do other things as well. If you’re one of the best, you may become known as a Jedi Hunter, someone who is even dangerous to the Jedi that escaped the purge of Order 66. Your weapons will have to be powerful, and your ship will have to be fast. Some famous examples include Jango Fett and his son Boba.
If you’re the lucky type, you may do well as a gambler. Gamblers can be playing for entertainment, as well as a source of income. The most famous gambler in Star Wars is undoubtedly Lando Calrissian, who won prizes like the Millenium Falcon and administration of Cloud City on Bespin.
