Fans of Star Wars in 2016

Fans make huge AT-ACT model2016 was a big year for Star Wars. We saw more Star Wars Rebels, Rogue One, and more. Beyond those powerful feats, a number of star wars fans found themselves in the spotlight, big or small. Therefore, today we list those people, who tell us being a fan of this great series is never dull.

Chewbacca Mask Lady

Perhaps the biggest event for Star Wars fandom was Chewbacca Mask Lady. When Texas mother Candace Payne went to get some Star Wars toys for her kids, she found something for herself as well. She posted a four-minute video on Facebook of herself wearing an electronic Chewbacca mask, laughing with joy in the driver’s seat of her car. The video has over 140 million views, consequently breaking the previous record. The video is a simple exhibition of Star Wars, good cheer, and the simple joys of life. It, the video, also has a Wikipedia page.

Kid with the Tauntaun costume

For Halloween, one young fan’s handy parents created a one-of-a-kind tauntaun costume for trick or treating in the cold. The costume features a tauntaun bottom, while the child acts as the legs, and a top dressed like a Hoth rebel soldier. Cloth rider legs dangle at the sides, and he looks ready for anything.

Fan who got to see Rogue One early

After a worldwide campaign, terminally-ill Star Wars fan Neil Hanvey got a chance to see Rogue One on (or shortly before) August 22nd, 2016. Several well-known Star Wars figures, including Mark Hamill, furthered the #RogueOneWish hashtag created to help make Neil’s wish come true. Neil died on August 23rd, 2016.

Fans make homemade AT-ACT

When YouTube engineer Colin Furze got a small model of the AT-AT, he decided small wasn’t good enough. He built a massive 18-foot tall construction of the AT-AT’s predecessor, an AT-ACT (which is the beast we see fighting the rebels in Rogue One), and filled it with Star Wars merchandise (including “proper decent stormtrooper helmets”) thanks to a partnership with eBay. In addition, Colin then gave it away to two local children. With a push of a button, a ladder descends and it all becomes a playhouse, and it also has a moveable head.

July Fourth Star Wars Battle

May July Fourth be with youIt will soon be July Fourth. A time when, in the U.S. at least, we celebrate our country’s independence and beginning. We also have long firework displays that begin only after sitting in a large field for too long while being devoured by bugs, have barbeques with shaped meat tubes and fruit that is almost literally red-colored water and black seeds contained in hard rinds, and sit alongside roads as multi-colored cars roll down them, followed by people making noise with instruments and little guys with fezzes in tiny cars.

So instead of those things we’re going to look at what our favorite fictional characters would be doing a July Fourth analog.

For the fireworks display, our heroes gather on the canopy village of Endor, surrounded by the furry Ewoks, enjoying some interesting percussive music and native treats while they wait for their hosts’ galaxy-renowned display to be ready. They’ve already seen an example during the celebration feast after the battle of Endor, and they can’t wait to see it again.

Unbeknownst to them, Imperial remnants are closing in on their position! Their laser rifles are primed and ready to take down the fledgling New Galactic Republic. As they take aim at our heroes, they- This doesn’t really seem very July Fourth, now does it? Let’s adjust a few things.

Weapons trained, they prepare to fire. Suddenly, water balloons and squirt gun blasts rain upon our heroes! They jump into action, furiously pumping their own squirt guns until the pressure is high enough to return fire. Before they can take aim, a volley of water balloons lands near them.

The devastation!

Han Solo stumbles to his feet. Water sheeting down his face obscures his vision. He rolls and finds the defense of a cambylictus tree, clothes soaked. He shakes a still Ewok body at his feet before more blasts of water force him farther into the village.

Luke, having decided to spend some quiet time before the fireworks, hears the attack and races to help. His lightsaber is no help against the water, and in fact it shorts the weapon out! He runs, trying to find a weapon to fight back. He runs into his sister Leia, whose hair has come undone – she looks like a drowned wookie.

Han Solo gets deeper into the village, pursued by the Imperials, and find Chewbacca, angry, wet, and stinking. The wookie grabs a huge bucket of water and slams it over a Stormtrooper’s head, flooding the soldier’s armor and stunning him. Han and Chewie abscond to the largest tree in the village, meeting with the Jedi siblings. Within the tree: a potent armory of water-based warfare. They arm themselves and fend off the approaching battalion!

Get ready for July Fourth!

It is a ferocious battle. After hours, the Empire is defeated, and they retreat. Our heroes, and the Ewoks, celebrate with delicious cooked Dindra and sweet Cardellian mint, watching the delayed fireworks display with relish. Their July Fourth is complete.

Real World Star Wars Characters

Chewbacca in real life
Chewbacca takes to the street

We once discussed, for your enjoyment, what your job would be should you find yourself in the Star Wars universe. But what if Star Wars characters found their way to the real world, what employment would they most likely fall into?

(Of course, this ignores the fact that they don’t have identification, can only supposedly speak English, and endless other fact.)

The Heroes

Should Luke find himself on Earth during his farmboy days, there’s no reason he would cease that venture. He’s clearly a skilled mechanic, able to pilot things far more complicated than a tractor, and is used to the work and sun a farmer has to get used to. If he found himself after he became a Jedi, then he would likely find himself working with CERN researchers to find a way back to his own universe.

Leia Organa, as an experienced stateswoman, would probably end up in the orator business or the working for the government. Wishing to keep her status as a literal alien unknown, she would refuse anything more than a desk job.

Han Solo, never the person that fits in to normal culture, will like Luke continue his space-career on land. Or, on the seas! One of the galaxy’s greatest smugglers might not be able to make the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs anymore, but smuggling is just as prevalent on Earth.

The Villains

Boba Fett, who would immediately find out he’s way more popular in the real world than he should be, having far fewer bounty targets, plus technology that would make him public enemy number one for physicists, takes a different approach and travels the convention circuit with his sweet Mandalorian armor. Fans the world over are wowed.

Though elderly, Emperor Palpatine still has a few tricks in him. His status as a Sith Lord in jeopardy, thanks to a higher level of skepticism found in the real world, eventually finds himself part of the freakshow in a small Bavarian circus as “Das erstaunliche Elektro.” This does not please him, leading to an eventual manhunt of someone the news stations dub “Der Zirkus Mörder.”

Darth Vader will find himself inexplicably in charge of Russia. The cooler weather works perfectly with his hot armor.

And:

He still hasn’t been found

The real world will be a dangerous place for our favorite characters, but we hope you’ve enjoyed this special “what if” nonetheless. Come back soon for more fun fan info!

Valentine’s Day Plans

Whether you’re heading out with your love or staying in for a quiet night, we know you’re really wondering what your favorite Star Wars characters are going to be up to this Valentine’s Day. Well, we have just the thing. Read on, and be enlightened!

Valentine's Day
The Solos celebrate Valentine’s Day

Han and Leia:

Leaving the kids in the capable hands of C-3PO and R2-D2 (who are robots, and thus incapable of love), Han and Leia will likely take a trip to a romantic, out-of-the way locale, such as the diamond planet or the Umbex III “Rings of Passion”*. Later, they may have a shopping trip on Coruscant, or swing their political power for a comfy table on one of the metropolis-planet’s best restaurants.

*Not canon.

Luke and Mara Jade:

Still dating, Luke wants to make Valentine’s Day a special event. His options are many; there is no shortage of romantic sights out in the galaxy, both among the stars and on planets (Luke is also trying to one-up his father’s sorry attempts at romance). However, given the track record that these two hold, they both come heavily armed, expecting at the very least an Imperial remnant out for blood. In the end, it just helps to draw them closer together.

Chewbacca:

Chewbacca has the opportunity to travel home and visit his wife Mallatobuck and son Lumpawaroo. He will mostly enjoy a home-cooked meal of wookie staples, and healthy amounts of cortyg brandy before a quiet night spent with his family.

Lando Calrissian:

Mothers, lock up your daughters – and yourselves, just to be safe . . . in fact you’d better just lock up everything – Lando is looking for love. He’s going to hit the hot spots in Bespin, Coruscant, and all the other planets that are full of eligible ladies ready to spend time with a real charmer. His exploits will go down in legend.

Whatever your plans, we hope your Valentine’s Day is great. Thanks for reading, and be sure to visit next week for more fun Star Wars information!
